7/31/06 09:12 pm - Nearly time to go home!

Blimey, I have not written in here for far too long!

I have been having fun, I have been playing lots more cluedo, amongst many other fun things. I have finished seeing all my films now, after going into Auckland nearly every day to see one of two of them. I’ve seen some amazing ones too, which have gone straight to my top ten!

We all drove up to Hamilton, where Ellie and James used to live. There is a massive park there, which I think is for adults! There was a big swingy thing which was amazingly fun – I have never seen anything like it before! It’s really pretty there too, a lovely big lake (felt a bit like Poole Park!) and lots of good shopping places.

We went to Davenport yesterday, which is in Auckland, a probably the most expensive place here. It was niiiice, with a big beach and cute little houses.

I have only one week left, and I can’t believe it’s gone so quickly! It will be really sad to go home. I feel like this is my house now, and have fitted so well into Ellie and James’s routine and lives, that it’s just been so easy to be here. And of corse, the cats. I shall miss them lots! Especially Butler’s moustache and Claude’s retching (we fed him some chicken at the weekend and he’s been a bit sick and retching lots ever since… and making some very funny noises!)

I am dreading saying goodbye in the airport a bit – it was bad enough to say goodbye to Ellie and James the first time, when they emigrated, but to have to do it again is even worse maybe!

So I have had a lovely lovely relaxing time here, and I feel really good about how I have spent my time – I may not have gone traveling around much, but that was never really my plan – I think ill save that for next time I come. When I should have more money to spend. I could hire a cat and really see it all!

So I am going to be returning home in a week, fully relaxed, my batteries recharges, with such a clear head! Time to be super busy with all the stuff happening in the next couple of months!!

Today Today Today!
To Auckland, where we went to Artspace, the big gallery here, and a couple of dodgy other galleries. Twas interesting, i didn't leave very inspired though, maybe I was just n ot in the mood? Enjoyed the general feel of the big Auk today though, it's got a lovely atmosphere! I booked my tickets for the film festival. $120! which seems a lot of money, but it's only about £36, and that's for 11 films. bargin i think! and i will probably meet the love of my life in the cinema. \

7/9/06 11:31 pm - Sky Tower!

Good day!
dinner at the Sky tower was brilliant. it's a gorgeous restaurant and the views of Auckland were spectacular. even better as it was dark, as all the lights looked brill. kept thinking it was really high, but remembering the Empire State, i guess it's nothing in height! it was fun to be always on the move in the restaurant, slowly going round in a circlle. i think it was one and a half revolutions whilst we were there - so very very slowly! After dinner we walked around the Sky City Village, which is the building next to the Sky tower itself. lots goes on in there, and there was a massive casino we had a look in - have never been in one before, so that was cool.

We went for drinks in some of the local bars afterwards, everyone seemed very drunk! pretty much everywhere, especially the big clubs are open 24 hours. saw many drunken people on the street, and encountered lots of sick! felt a bit like i was back in the dingy parts of Bournemouth!!! had a brilliant time though, a good dance, met lots of Ellie and James's friends, not many hunky kiwi's though. bummer!

We got loads of films out this weekend, so much entertainment to be had at home, and i also plan on getting out on the bike... have found some of the bike routes here in North-shore and there's one which is a trail along the beach, so i might do that this week. Need to make sure i wear a helmet though, as there's an immediate fine of $70 if you are caught not wearing one! i started three paintings, in a series today, so i will get them done this week too. And i want to try and sunbathe too - i'm going to be a pasty one when i get home otherwise!!

Tomorrow we are off to Central Auckland to visit some of the art galleries and maybe go to the zoo. Ellie and James have booked the day off, score! I need to book my tickets for the Aukcland Film Festival which is in a couple of weeks. have 10 tickets to book! there are some brilliant sounding films on, so i'm going to be taking lots of my time up with that. I ordered some polaroid film onlien becaus ei swear it dosen't exist out here! the film arrived so quickly, and i've taken loads already:

tomorrow night we are going to dinner in and observatory restaurant in the Sky Tower, very exciting!

7/3/06 09:39 am

Bonjour everyone!

this weekend was really nice.

Saturday - went to a vineyard & restaurant called Grace Hill, which James and Ellie's friends have just bought. it was gorgeous there, massive building with so much land. weddings are held there, so it's all very pretty. got a picture of the lake and the fountain in the middle of it making a rainbow:

we had a nibbley lunch there and then drove into the outskirts of Auckland where we went to the fantastic K-Mart, the massive american superstore, which sells EVERYTHING! found some brilliant drawing paper and arty things and more tights!! brr!

Time seemed to disappear in K-mart, and when we left there and had a quick look around the mall, it was late, so home we went, home made burgers for dinner, yum! The cats are so cute, they fall asleep ontop of eachother and clean eachothers faces at the same time, looks hilarious. Gay cats! We met a very odd siamese cat at the Grace Hill place, named him Steven and laughed at his horrible purr/meow combo; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3oQ7zt94iJA

On Sunday, we went into central central Auckland, down Queen Street, past the Sky tower. i hunted for photobooths, but only found a Japan-style one, which was crappy. took my pic in the screen though:

we went in many shops and had a good look at the sky tower, which had many people absailing off it. not for me though! god no! we booked dinner there for friday; you can go up to a rotating observatory in the sky tower, so you get 360 degree views of auckland as it slowly rotates. i like the sound of that!! i shall take many pictures.

Central Auckland reminded me of New York. wide streets and masses of pedestrians. shame it's not as hot as when i went to NY! i think i'm suffering a bit because of the cold. i am sick of the cold! i would like my summer please! i think it is due! i am currently having a look at the whole summer forecasts for the UK, it better be warm when i am back!

so now it is Monday and Ellie and James are at work, and there is a floppy-purring cat on my lap demanding my attention, and i am thinking about how i am having a lovely time here, and it's also going to be lovely going home. Time in Bournemouth with everyone, and then uni - having my own flat with Sarah and having lots of fun, and i have lots of things in the future planned, like house sitting for my brother Jerry in france, and off to somewhere exciting like India with Sarah and others, cycling around Farnham on my bike! cooking lovely meals and having dinner parties! apparently meeting my husband, as the psychic told me.... so much!

but for now i am here listening to some Bob Marley and talking to my friends on MSN. lovely!

6/30/06 05:00 pm - Strange things

i bought these two goodies in the STRANGE shop today, and i love them both in equal amounts!!

6/28/06 09:34 pm - Hamilton

I had a lovely day today... went to work with Ellie and James at the photo lab in Hamilton, a twenty minute drive. Spend the morning writing copious amounts of emails to everyone in THE WORLD! and then went off to read my book in a lovely cafe. "best tea in New Zealand" they advertised, and i think they may have been right!

I went in asking if they sold green tea, and they told me they had twelve varieties! brilliant! And it was so delicious that I bought some. Was very tempted by the teacups too – made of very thin glass, so delicate and beautiful.

After an hour or so there, I went off to the beach, which was amazing. You could see for miles down the coast and there were barely any people, just a few dog walkers. I found a rusty old key on the floor, right by where I was standing, I always see this as a very lucky thing, and of course, kept the key for my written travel journal/sketchbook.

Decided to make a fool of myself by setting the timer on my camera and running around in shot. I left with half the beach in my shoes and a set of brilliant photos.

Discovered that I’m famous here as a Barfoot!

Went off to find a river I heard about, and followed and very strange weaving path down a steep hill, and thankfully the river was at the end! Very picturesque, but a wee bit boggy! Did a bit of drawing, then went back to the photo lab and had a rummage through some of the old, leftover photos and more drawing. Lots of drawing today!

Came home and had lovely shepherds pie and a cup of my new tea.

Will post pictures of the crap I bought today – went to a very strange shop where everything was under $3. (about 80p) the sunglasses were all $2 and every pair was wonky!!

At the weekend, we had an outing to The Warehouse which is the massive chain they have here which sells everything you can imagine. It’s like Tesco, B&Q, Homebase and Habitat, all under one roof. Or maybe it’s just like M&S! we found some brilliant masks there – must go back and buy some!
